Trial Reopening of Reuse Garages – 15 April 2026
We are pleased to announce that we will be trialling the reopening of the reuse garages, starting on Wednesday mornings from 15 April 2026.
NO ELECTRICAL ITEMS WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR REUSE.
During this trial period, visitors will only be able to deposit recycling materials at the bottom of the site, along with items intended for the reuse garages.
To ensure safe and efficient operations, the top section of the site and the building materials area will be temporarily closed. This will allow staff to effectively monitor activity within the reuse garages.
Please note that parking on site is limited. Alternative parking is available along the heritage trail behind the site, in the layby on our driveway, and at the public car park near St Johns Primary School.
We thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Unfortunately, due to limited capacity, we are unable to accept waste from the northern parishes during the closure of Balladoole.
Our facility is funded by the ratepayers of the five western parishes and, as such, we must prioritise service for this community.
Address verification procedures will remain in place on site, and access will be refused to individuals residing outside our designated service area. Therefore, visitors should be prepared to provide proof of address if requested.
13th February 2026

Due to recent updates regarding landfill management on the island, changes have been implemented at the site concerning the disposal of certain building materials.
Previously, plasterboard and insulation were mixed and disposed of at Wrights Pit North. These materials are now required to be segregated. Plasterboard will be fully recycled through a local disposal route, and insulation materials will be processed separately.
Following notification from the Department of Infrastructure’s Waste Management Unit, the WCAS Board has purchased an enclosed, covered skip specifically for the storage of plasterboard. The new skip was delivered on 11th February.
In addition, due to increased restrictions within the building waste acceptance criteria, the site policy for these materials has been updated.
From 13th February onwards, staff assistance and supervision will be required when depositing these building materials. Please seek guidance from a site operative if you require access to the building materials area.
For clarification, the following waste types are defined as:
Inert – Soil, ceramics, tiles, plaster, mortar and cement
Insulations – Rockwool, fibreglass and insulations similar to “Kingspan”
Rubble – Brick, rubble, stone and hardcore
Plasterboard – Plasterboard MUST be dry and free from contaminants like wood, tiles or insulations.
WE CANNOT ACCEPT WET OR INSULATED PLASTERBOARD
Thank you for your cooperation.
